FISHING

The Squamish area is an outstanding place for sport fishing. There is a wide variety of fish that inhabit the Squamish area which comprises many lakes, freshwater rivers, and the salt water of Howe Sound.

The different species of fish in the Squamish area such as Chinook, Steelhead, Coho, Chum, and Pink Salmon are very important to commercial and sport fishing alike.

The flat fish family in which many of the food species are found includes Halibut, Sole and Flounder. A few other species in the area are Rockfish, Red Snapper, Lingcod, Cutthroat & Rainbow Trout, Kokanee, Dolly Varden Char, and Whitefish.

Browning Lake at Murrin Provincial Park is a great place for Rainbow trout fishing and is stocked regularly in spring and fall.

Brohm Lake is also stocked with Rainbow trout as well as a natural supply of Cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden Char. You may want to try your hand at Ice Fishing when the lakes are frozen in winter.

The Squamish, Mamquam and Cheakamus Rivers yield Coho, Char, and Trout.

Porteau Cove and Furry Creek are the places to catch Chinook salmon in winter and spring or for all season fishing try the base of Shannon Falls.
